MEETING RECAP

The association met May 3 and 4 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center for our first convention since the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 200 MHISC members attended the event.

The get together included meetings of MHISC’s five key committees, a golf tournament, PAC raffle, dinner and reception, two free hours of continuing education, and an induction ceremony for two new members of the South Carolina Manufactured Housing Hall of Fame.

PAC RAFFLE WINNERS

PAC RAFFLE WINNERS

MHISC hosted a PAC raffle drawing during the Tuesday night dinner. Raffle tickets were sold at the event and all of MHISC’s chapter meetings in 2022 and 2021.

The association’s PAC backs our legislative voice and helps us provide support to legislators who help us keep housing affordable for South Carolina. The PAC raffle winners were:

First Place, $1,000 Cash Prize: Susan Marchbanks

PAC GOLF TOURNAMENT

MHISC held the PAC Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 4.

The event raised funds for the association’s political action committee. The MHISC PAC fund is important to our association and helps us fight for important legislation that helps the manufactured housing industry. Without our PAC fund, MHISC would not have a legislative voice. The tournament winners are listed below.

TONY MASSARELLI

HALL  OF  FAME  INDUCTEE

As Clayton VP for South Carolina, Tony Massarelli’s energy and talent drove the company’s expansion to 26 successful retail centers in the state.  As MHISC Chair, he was instrumental in bringing the company’s resources in support of the association’s wide-ranging efforts to benefit the entire industry.  Under his leadership, dozens of his employees signed up for leadership roles.

Tony Massarelli has served on the MHISC Dealer Roundtable and SC Modular Steering Committee for over ten years.  He moved rapidly through the ranks of MHISC leadership, serving as a chapter officer, chapter president, board member and on the Executive Committee before being elected MHISC Chair in 2011.  He is currently GM at Clayton Beaufort and serves on MHISC’s board.

KEN DRACHMAN

HALL  OF  FAME  INDUCTEE

Ken Drachman was a highly regarded lender representative who served on the MHISC Board for over 10 years as a Chapter President, Service/Supply representative, and Treasurer.  His leadership and business acumen played an essential role in guiding the association through the lean years of the downturn back to today’s fully-staffed, financially-sound organization.

As Charleston Chapter President, Drachman was known for his fundraising process and ability to draw a big crowd with to local meetings planning interesting programming.  He served as an MHISC County Coordinator and on key committees.  He played a major role in the association’s legislative program, advising the staff on lending issues and testifying at the Statehouse.

MHISC’s five key committees met on Tuesday, May 3 to tackle industry issues. The topics they covered were:

Dealer Roundtable: Ideas for revisiting South Carolina’s requirements for Authorized Officials.

Membership Committee: Plans for upcoming MHISC meetings and ideas for new member recruitment.

Community Managers Committee: Ideas for proposed modifications to common community ordinances that counties are imposing across the state.

Image & Professionalism Committee: Topics for next cycle’s continuing education courses and ways to streamline the process for members.

Modular Steering Committee: Ways to adapt South Carolina’s modular appearance criteria to fit emerging trends in home design.
