Leadership Opportunities with MHISC

The Manufactured Housing Institute of South Carolina is the voice of the modular and manufactured home industry in the state. MHISC is a non-profit trade association representing the interests of the industry in South Carolina.

About the Positions

MHISC Board of Directors

Makes decisions on key government issues, develops strategies to promote the industry, and makes policy decisions design to strengthen the association as a voice for manufactured housing in our state.

Membership: Two persons representing each member category; retailers, manufacturers, communities and service / supply companies; five officers and an at-large member. The president of MHISC’s five chapters also serve on the state board. The rest of the board is elected by the state membership following service on a committee or as a chapter officer. 

Meetings: Meet in conjunction with each of the association’s statewide meetings plus one or two additional meetings in Columbia. Frequent communication via email, fax and conference call.

Community Managers Committee

Works for favorable legislation and an upgraded image for the state’s manufactured home rental communities.

Membership: 12 persons appointed for a one year term.

Meetings: Twice a year in conjunction with MHISC’s statewide association meetings.

Dealer Roundtable

Serves as a voice for the state’s independent dealers and major chain retailers.

Membership – 12 persons appointed for a one year term. Designed for dealers and retail GMs with 10 or more years of experience.

Meetings – Twice a year in conjunction with MHISC’s statewide association meetings.

Image and Professionalism Committee

Promotes high professional standards and an improved image for the industry as an important part of the industry’s long-term marketing strategy. Monitors local media; members receive media training to serve as spokespersons for the industry.

Membership – 12 persons appointed for a one year term.

Meetings – Twice a year in conjunction with MHISC’s statewide association meetings.

Membership Committee

A hands-on committee involved in membership recruitment, fundraising, and increasing turn-out at association meetings

Membership – 12 persons appointed for a one year term.

Meetings – Twice a year in conjunction with MHISC’s statewide association meetings.

Modular Steering Committee

Develops strategies and priorities for the association’s modular program, the SC Modular Housing Institute. Takes positions on key Statehouse issues that impact the industry.

Membership: 12 persons appointed for a one year term. Designed for modular company owners and managers.

Meetings: Twice a year in conjunction with MHISC’s statewide association meetings

Social Media Ambassadors

Members influence public opinion by posting on social media such as Facebook and Twitter and on news media websites.

Membership – No limit, interested members are added to a mailing list and alerted when key information may need circulated.

Meetings – No regular meetings. Members are alerted via email when an issue arises or our industry is unfairly attacked.

Chapter Officers

Guide the association’s six chapters: Charleston, Grand Strand, Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate. Officers plan meetings, recruit turn-out and organize events such as a chapter golf tournament.

Membership – All MHISC members are welcome at any of the six chapters. Officers typically include a president, VP, and other positions such as director, secretary and treasurer. The President represents the chapter on the MHISC State Board.

Meetings – Four chapter meetings a year.
