How to Contact Local Officials

Need to get something done or info from local government?

There’s a directory to state’s county officials and a directory of municipal officials on MHISC’s website.

SC Municipal Officials

The municipal directory includes council members, department heads, and the main phone number for each municipal office. It also provides a link to the municipality’s official website, where additional contact information and resources can be found.

Municipal officials play an important role in local zoning, permitting, inspections, and development decisions that directly impact housing and community growth. Municipalities encompass the state’s cities and towns.

SC County Officials

The county directory includes county council members, key department heads, and the main phone number for county offices. It also provides a link to each county’s official website, where additional contact information and departmental resources can be found.

County officials play a critical role in planning and zoning, permitting, tax assessment, infrastructure, and land use decisions that directly impact housing development and community growth across the state.

Most routine county matters can be handled by the person who answers the phone or the person at the desk when you walk in.

But if you need to solve a problem it sometimes helps to know who to ask for or who’s in charge.
