MHISC CHAPTERS: Your Local Connection to the Association
MHISC has five member chapters around the state: Charleston, Grand Strand, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate.
Each chapter represents a cluster of counties in the region. For example members from Horry and Georgetown Counties attend the Grand Strand Chapter meetings in Conway.
WHO Every state MHISC member is welcome at all chapter meetings. In fact, members from other parts of the state and even other states can serve as chapter officers. Manufacturer and service/supply representatives from around the Southeast enjoy making the rounds of the chapter meetings and spending time with retailers, community managers and other members living and working in the local area.
WHEN The chapters meet quarterly. Chapter meeting months for 2019 are March, June, September, and December. Sometimes a chapter will hold a special event outside of the traditional months. Members can check this page as the next chapter meeting months draw near for info on upcoming meetings.
WHAT There’s a lot of variety in MHISC’s chapter meetings. Many meetings feature a program on hot industry topics. Other months, members can attend and get free continuing education credits they’ll need to renew their license. Most chapters devote one meeting to a golf or bowling tournament. Some put on a barbecue at a retail center and invite legislators and local officials to come, eat and tour some homes while they are there. Christmas parties and dinner are a favorite event where spouses and other family members join in the fun.
WHY The chapter meetings are a great way to catch up with industry friends and maybe hear a little scuttlebutt about what’s going on up and down the strip. Members get an opportunity to learn about development and new policies that directly impact their local market. When an issue such as zoning or excessive fees comes up, the industry has a head starting because the companies are already organized and ready to work together for fair treatment.
