SOUTH CAROLINA BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL
The SC Business License Tax Standardization Act passed by the General Assembly in 2020 streamlines the state’s business license process. The SC Department of Revenue, in coordination with Municipal Association of South Carolina, created the “Local Business License Renewal Center,” a one-stop license renewal portal which went live January 1, 2022.
The three major changes are as follows:
• The standard due date for renewing business licenses is now April 30 throughout South Carolina.
• There is now a standard calculation for business license taxes across all municipalities in the state.
• Applicants can submit one standard application to the state rather than to each municipality.
