This week, MHISC staff visited local governments in the Upstate, Midlands, and Charleston regions to push for fairer zoning for manufactured homes. Several counties and municipalities have indicated that they are open to changing zoning requirements and MHISC is working with area retailers to nail down specifics.
Additionally, the association sent the October issue of Update magazine to press. The magazine will be available to read on MHISC.com at the beginning of next week and should hit members’ mailboxes around the end of next week.

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) conference is occurring in Lexington. It brings cities across Kentucky together, connecting them with services and finding potential solutions to issues facing their respective municipality.
One of those issues is lack of affordable housing. At the conference, city stakeholders from across the Commonwealth could view a manufactured model home. Those homes could be completed within a matter of days, rather than months.
“You have the same person that does trim work every day; that’s their job. You have the same person that frames this wall; that’s their job — and so just the efficiency of the building,” Logan Hanes, KMHI.
This week, MHISC reached out to all US House of Representative delegates from South Carolina in support of a bill that would stop the federal Department of Energy’s plan that would increase construction costs of all manufactured homes.
Additionally, the association worked on compiling nominee questionnaires into ballots for this year’s Best in the Industry awards. Each member location will receive one ballot in October to vote for who will be featured at the December 6 awards ceremony.
