South Carolina Consumer Protections

There are three levels of protections to the homebuyer at different government levels:

    1. Federal: Federal inspectors work in the manufactured home factories to supervise the homebuilding process and ensure production is up to the code set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
    2. State: The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation accepts and investigates complaints by consumers. They can order repairs to be done to the homes if they find an issue.
    3. Local: During the installation process, local county inspectors ensure that the home is installed properly to the federal guidelines and that the home is in compliance with any local codes.
